My mom is a diabetic and she has a bad skin rash. Its been like this for about two weeks. Its shown up on her neck (back, left/right), chest, and both arms. Its itching her really bad and its worrying us. She is too scared to go to a doctor but wants to find out what it could be and how to treat it from home. Any thoughts on what it could be?

There’s no sane reason to be afraid of seeing a Doctor, she should just go in and see what a Doctor can prescribe. A diabetic will sometimes have problems with fungus and yeast cause they just love sugars. A Doctor can prescribe Ketoconozale cream if it is a fungus or a yeast. An over the counter cream that’s similar is Miconazole cream. But you have to use it religiously twice a day for at least a month even if the problem goes away, otherwise they will become resistant to the cream and come back stronger.

My daughter (19 months) has eczema and VERY sensitive skin. It is much worse in the winter time but now its getting really, really bad. I use Cetaphil (which was the only thing that worked-and worked well!) but now its like its losing its effect. She has scratch marks and welts in different spots from itching. I just saw a special on the news about doctors prescribing bleach baths for kids with eczema. In addition to prescribed creams (take her to a pediatric dermatologist). You mix 1/4 c regular clorox into the bath water and it is supposed to really help. It takes a few weeks to a month to start seeing a difference. They had kids saying it really helped them, and they showed before and after pics, and it seemed convincing. They said the bleach in that small amount won’t hurt them if they swallow a bit of the water, and it won’t hurt their eyes since it’s only 1/4 c. in a tub of water.

Oh, and my doctor says cetaphyl is one of the worst things you can put on your skin because it has a lot of chemicals that actually irritate skin–even the sensative cetaphyl. I was using it, too, until he told me to stop.

EDIT: I’m just reporting what was on the news last week. People who didn’t see it shouldn’t comment. Ask your doctor about it, and let him know that there was a study done on it at tNorthwestern. Do your research before putting down others.

i have no idea but i can tell you that after geting a tatto it drys the skin wich flakes a bit for a few days/weeks, so its a good idea to get some Moisturiser to put on afterwards i havnt used it but this is ment to be good for tatoo after care

Maizie is a foster dog with New Beginnings ShihTzu Rescue and the three applicants that were lining up for her all dropped her when her diagnoses came down. I need to know what diet to pass on to anyone interested in adopting this little girl.

My vet recommended a kibble loaded with corn. Because of the severe skin allergy she cannot tolerate the corn or wheat in diets I have been offered. She will not eat the canned KD either. The info about the proper diet for the kidney disease is confusing. Some people say protein doesn’t matter and others say it does. Low potassium is important, but not listed on the food containers, or the lists I am finding on the net. Can anyone help clarify all of this information for me?

12/28/2006: Carla from NSW Australia writes, “Apple Cider Vinger cleaned my Kidney. This was discovered after taking a full blood test.”

Ted replies: “Dear Satish: Often times a kidney failure is due to excess acidity in urine as the acidity digests the kidney causing kidney failure much like the stomach acid digesting your kidneys. My own experience with kidney failure is often when urinary pH is between 5.0 to 5.5 but often times it can be as low as 4.5.

Therefore, taking 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda with 1 glass of water taken about twice a day should notice some relief in the kidney problems.

It takes two weeks to notice some improvement. In case of my own aunt who had kidney failure pending a surgical removal it took her 3 days of taking about this same amount or a bit more like 1 teaspoon of baking soda twice a day plus 1/2 glass of water for 3 days before the doctors decided her kidney was completely normal.

Kidney failure can have all kinds of causes, but the most common problem I do see is excess acidity of the urine.

If you are a perfectionist, a urinary pH precisely at 7 or as high as 7.34 is a pH that is unlikely to be acid to begin with, so it at least will give a chance for the kidney to recover.

An exception is that in case the kidney failure is of a diabetes complication, then it would appear treatment of avoiding strict no sugar diets to be very important to reduce that first along with the usual baking soda needed to raise urinary pH to at least 7.0, being neutral is the best figure I can imagine where there is practically speaking no acid that can destroy the kidneys.

There are other causes of kidney failure, but the information you supply me is lacking in details. I am therefor giving you a general ones that had worked for me the best. Ted”

I have a condition known as PMLE which stands for Polymorphic Light Eruption. In plain English, it means my body sometimes incorrectly thinks it’s under attack from UV light and thus, I get an allergic response (rash) from the sun. I’ve had this condition for years now. My case is pretty mild and my outbreaks are random. This time around, unfortunately, it’s lasting WAY longer than normal and it’s been two week of unbroken rash. It’s really bumming me out and it highly frustrating. I’m greatly embarrassed by how my skin looks when I break out in the rash, but I’m hopeful that by talking about it openly and publicly, I can not only help get through some of my fears, but help educate other people about the condition. I’ve tried to capture a little of what it looks like, but it’s really difficult to get it properly on film. Its a lot redder than it appears here, and much more “bumpy” and “rashy” but this at least gives you an idea. Maybe your dog has some type of fungal infection on the skin which leads to scaling and itchiness. It can only be treated with antibiotic. The only way to be certain is to take her to the vet of course.

I got an Anti-Wrinkle cream as a GWP (gift with purchase) I started using it since I got it for free and I noticed it’s the best moisturizer I’ve tried – Lancome High Resolution with Fibrelastine (intense recovery anti wrinkle cream SPF 15). But since it’s an Anti-Wrinkle cream I was wondering if it can damage my skin if I use it as a regular mouisturizer?

It certainly won’t hurt you or damage your skin. The two active ingredients, Fibrelastine and D-Contraxol+, are not the most effective anti-agers anyway. I’m 21 and don’t have wrinkles but sometimes use a cream with retinol because it has been proven to be the best at collagen regrowth (undoing damage) and hence preventing wrinkles. The only downer that I come across with retinol is that it can dry out my skin. If the Lancome High Resolution moisturizes well then keep using it by all means. My only concern is the sunscreen in this product does not include UVA-protecting ingredients, and these rays will damage your skin.

I gained 30lbs of excess weight in about 6 months. Need exercises I can do indoors to lose weight. Will be able to go back in to the REAL world in about 10 weeks. Want to lose about 15lbs by then. I am 5’4″, 160lbs would like to get to 130lbs.

I have done weight lifting of 7lbs and seemed to have gotten more upper body definition and looks more masculine.

I would try Pilate’s. My neighbor did it at the gym and it really tones you up without the “masculine muscles” and you can lose weight as well. It look like fun too and you are standing most of the time. She said she really enjoys it. Good luck.

Use palmers skin whitening bleach creme. It comes in a red and whit box u can get it from CVS or the beauty supply store. It may be at Rite Aide. It will help tone and lighten ur skin at the same time. I know because my mom used to use it but stopped once she came back from Africa. She had this really nice complexion that was even and clear. She got darker because its hot in Africa but the creme kept her complexion even. The goal is not to get too light but have an even complexion. Alos use PLENTY of sunscreen when you use bleaching creme.
