Question by tennis: How do I build muscle and collagen?
I am a 52 year old healthy woman. Until 2 years ago I had muscle tone but I lost it all in my arms and legs. I have always worked out and eat healthy. I think I lost it because of stress and/or menopause. How can I get some of it back? There is hardly any muscle there to even tone. Thank You

Brian P. Maloney, MD, FACS, National Trainer for Allergan, the makers of Botox and Juvederm shows Botox Injections to the Forehead in his Atlanta Georgia Facial Plastic Surgery Center. Interesting facts about Botox: • Botulinum toxin is a purified protein made by a bacterium. It is not a live bacterium. • There are seven different types of botulinum toxin. Each type varies in potency and length of effect. Type A (BOTOX) and type B (Myoblock) are used medically. Of the seven, BOTOX is most commonly used because it is the most potent. If someone does not respond to BOTOX, they may decide to try Myoblock. • Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approval of botulinum toxin first occurred in 1989 for lazy eye, 2000 for dystonia, and 2002 for glabellar lines. Recent approvals for hyperhydrosis (excessive perspiration) and headaches have also occurred. • The BOTOX comes in a dried powder and is mixed with four milliliters of saline (salt water). This gives the patient 25 units of BOTOX in each syringe. The FDA studies for facial wrinkles were performed in between the eyebrows on the frown lines or the “11″s. Twenty units were placed in this area. Additional tests showed if one uses more, the results tend to last longer and be more effective. Studies have also shown that diluted BOTOX is not as effective. botox paralyzes the muscles.
I have had botox done for migraine once and for cosmetic (forehead wrinkles) once.

yes, your neurologist can do it… and insurance should pay for it. you may get relief and you may not– you may have some TMJ problems (the masseter is a main chewing muscle)- this may already be an issue for you now– so talk to your dentist AND your neurologist about this before you get this done.

when my neurologist did the botox for my migraines he injected my forehead, my occipitals (back of my skull) and my temporalis (above my ear – the temple area) when he did the temporalis muscle it paralyzed that muscle & I had a hard time eating for about a month. my jaw clunked every time I tried to take a bite & I could only eat very soft food.
the masseter is a bigger more powerful muscle, so you need to discuss if this will effect your eating/chewing.
I dont know how it is effecting you , but you should ask about that.
