Question by James Watkin: Wound Care and Iodoform?
If you are packing a wound with iodoform and it keeps working its way out due to the moisture should you just keep repacking it or should you use some dry sterile packing instead? I do have a doctor but I would like the opinion of some nurses. They are the ones that spend more time with wounds.
Also, If a wound stays wet all the time, will it ever heal? And if not, are there dressings that wick away the moisture more than others?
Thank you in advance for your answers.

Frankly I am a little curious about where this wound came from. Iodosorb is primarily used on purulent or infected wounds. There are a lot of products similar which are equally effective. One that I swear by is Kaltostat which is an alginate or seaweed based dressing. It may be sold under another name in the US. It should be slightly damp when applied, but will clean up an infected wound and encourage healing. Also modern wound management practices require a moist environment to heal the wound without scarring. The object is that is a sterile, moist environment. Perhaps you should speak to your local pharmacist about dressing properties. Also it may be worthwhile finding out if you can access a Registered Nurse to change the dressing for you.
