Turbinoplasty is the operation performed to reduce the size of the turbinate. Usually, only the inferior turbinates need correction. Large turbinates can cause nasal obstruction. In some cases where a deviated septum is present, compensatory hypertrophy of the turbinate occurs on the side opposite the deviation. The nose does its job of filtering, warming and humidifying when the oncoming airstream is about 2-3 millimeters wide. If the airway is too large on one side, the turbinates compensate by getting bigger. That is why turbinate surgery is sometimes necessary when the septum is straightened. Question by Patricia C: Is there a doctor who will do breast reconstructive surgery on a cancer survivor for free?
I am wondering if there are any doctors who donate their time to helping people who are uninsured. I had breast cancer 17 years ago. A quarter of my right breast was removed and I chose not to have a silicone implant (risk factor). Due to age and weight gain, I am very lopsided and would like to have breast reconstructive surgery done using the fat from my tummy. I tried to have this procedure done back when I had insurance, but I ended up having a pacemaker put in and my surgeon wouldn’t do the surgery then. I have since lost my job and have no health insurance. Although this is not a life saving procedure I need, it is an emotional one that has torn up my self esteem real bad. Thanks!
